Mother’s Day is a significant time to let women and their families and friends know there is help. I’ve joined with the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline and Support Program in their Mother’s Day campaign urging New Yorkers to call for emotional support or to get information in coping with breast cancer.
I encourage all New Yorkers with any type of breast cancer concerns to call the Hotline at their toll-free number, 1-800-877-8077, to speak with someone who has “been there.” Callers can receive updated information and emotional support from the Hotline’s specially trained volunteers, most of whom are women who have had breast cancer.
The Hotline has more than 100 highly trained volunteers. They offer emotional support, information and referrals, and their social work staff provides professional services. Best of all, there is no charge for any of this.
The hotline, established in 1980, is a project of the Adelphi School of Social Work. The website is: www.adelphi.edu/nysbreastcancer; and they also have a Facebook account: www.facebook.com/adelphibreastcancerhotline.
