East Meadow Students Collect Cell Phones for Soldiers
Bowling Green Elementary School's Bee Green Environmental Student Club collected dozens of cell phones to Senator Kemp Hannon’s Community Office in Garden City, which is registered as an official drop-off site for Cell Phones for Soldiers. Cell Phones for Soldiers is a non-profit organization that collects thousands of unwanted cell phones each month and sends them to ReCelluar; ReCelluar then pays Cell Phones for Soldiers so that the non-profit can afford to buy millions of pre-paid calling cards for U.S. troops overseas.
The Bee Green Environmental Club is open to all third graders of East Meadow’s Bowling Green Elementary School. The club's mission is making students more aware of environmental concerns. The children have taken up many projects during the 10-week period of the club, which include recycling and hands-on activities around the school’s campus. Students obtain a better idea of repurposing items that would normally be recycled or thrown away.
