DON’T JUST “TALK THE TALK,” “WALK THE WALK” THIS SUMMER
Ranking member of the Senate Health Committee, Senator Kemp Hannon, is partnering with Action Long Island and the American Heart Association to actively promote wellness and exercise on Long Island this summer.
Action Long Island recently launched The Long Island Wellness Challenge, a corporate competition between Long Island companies to encourage their employees and community to become more energized, fit and to live healthier lifestyles.
“This is not about how much weight you lose, but, about taking that first little, but extraordinarily important step of just doing something,” said co-chairman of Action Long Island and Corporate Director of Benefits for North Shore-LIJ Health System, Joseph F. Molloy. “By leveraging both the employer relationship with the employee, and the camaraderie that normally exists in the work environment, we are attempting to make this competition successful because the participants will help each other,” Molloy continued.
In support of the efforts of Action Long Island and other health initiatives launching state-wide, Senator Kemp Hannon has introduced legislation that establishes a committee on public wellness to assist health insurers and employers in creating wellness programs for insured and employees.
“A qualified wellness program is intended to be one that has comprehensive physical, mental, and behavioral health components buttressed by proper information and medically appropriate advice,” said Senator Hannon. “This legislation will help to set a standard for wellness programs throughout the State,” Hannon continued.
