Fifth Grade Students Ask Sen. Hannon About State Government

After delivering over 150 educational booklets to the fifth graders of Barnum Woods Elementary School in East Meadow, Senator Kemp Hannon (6th District) visited the students to answer their questions regarding how the New York State government functions.

“It was clear that the students did their homework, and did it very well I might add,” said Senator Hannon.  “I was very impressed by their enthusiasm and anxiousness to ask questions regarding what they learned from their reading assignments,” continued Hannon.

Senator Hannon’s booklet, entitled “My Visit to The Senate,” breaks down the importance of the New York State Senate and how it works.  From reading the booklet, students also learned that as American citizens, they can make a difference in both their national and state government.

“It’s crucial to educate our students about the significance of their role in government while they are young,” said Senator Hannon.  “Children should be aware of their rights as American citizens, and the importance of exercising those rights as they come of age.”

The Barnum Woods fifth graders will be applying the educational information they learned from Senator Hannon on examinations they are preparing to take this month.
